This design for the L-shaped small walled courtyard garden of a Victorian terrace property in Hampshire entailed addressing the layout carefully to maximise the functionality of the space by defining lounge and dining areas to imply a deceptive sense of spaciousness. Feelings of privacy, enclosure and division were also introduced with a series of 4 small trees with woodland and grass understory planting with lush fragrant climbers such as Japanese honeysuckle and star jasmines to add to the ambience . Extra wired screening on the north boundary was also added to hide the garage roofs beyond. The paving chosen was a contemporary sawn, linear, plank style limestone to purposefully contrast and add a sense of modernity in contrast to the Victorian style of architecture of the house.
